Combine the RYA Yachtmaster Shorebased Navigation course this winter with a Round IRL Voyage this summer for the ultimate, a WWS Coastal Skipper PLUS!

There is no better prep for taking your own boat out on the high seas or taking a group on a charter. You will be skilfully guided through the tricky interplay of tidal gates & weather forecasts that make passage planning a Round IRL Voyage complicated and satisfying.

Practice traditional Yachtmaster navigation techniques such as the Running Fix while also learning how to use AIS to tackle shipping lanes & Traffic Separation Schemes.

Learn all our tips & tricks for sail selection & sail handling with our extensive asymmetrical spinnaker collection from the “Zero” to “Big Blue”

All this while spotting whales, dolphins & seabirds on the Wild Atlantic Way and sampling the finest hospitality that Ireland’s Islands have to offer!

The WWS Coastal PLUS is not just a stepping stone to your Yachtmaster…its a step towards serious skippering ability.

Skills You’ll learn

Our friendly and vastly experienced instructors will teach you:

  • Boat Preparation
  • Advanced Passage Planning
  • Navigation and pilotage (Day & Night)
  • Weather forecasting
  • Sail selection and handling
  • Heavy weather sailing skills
  • Marine engine maintenance underway
  • Advanced helming techniques (Up & Downwind)

Experience Required – 15 days, 2 days as skipper, 300 miles, 8 night hours

Coastal Skipper Course Certificates

Students who successfully complete the Coastal Skipper course are awarded the IS (Irish Sailing) Coastal Skipper practical course certificate.

RYA Coastal Skipper Certificates available for €50.

Intermediate sailing skills and navigation to Yachtmaster Theory level required.
