It can be difficult to learn the new sailing language & know exactly when to use it. Wind Aware helps turn knowledge into understanding on our own time, at home, commuting or at the end of a day on the water.
Just by rotating our smart-phone or tablet, the graphics & audio show how helm, sail position & windex all relate to each other, as the wind angle changes when a boat turns. This app will improve ability to communicate & command a boat.

How does Wind Aware™ work?
Getting Started
- Launch the App.
- Point your Device into the wind and press the “Start” button.
- Rotate the Device.
Just imagine your phone or device is your boat & you are a bird looking down on your boat.
The “Windex Arrow” in the middle of the boat points into the wind, just like on a real yacht.
The large arrow on the clock-face also points into the wind.
The Point of Sail is displayed above the clock.
The motion of the boat is displayed under the clock ie. Bearing Away/Tacking etc.
Now you can easily see what time the wind is at and what “Point of Sail” you are on…
…so if the wind is at 11 o’clock… I am sailing close-hauled.

Wind Aware Lite is available for free. You miss out on all the extra functions though!
Wind Aware will help you understand & remember what Point of Sail goes with which each Apparent Wind Angle. Wind Aware joins it all together using the Boat-in-a-Clock. This makes it quick & easy to talk to crew about the wind & what we need them to do to manoeuvre the boat. This association & communication learning tool will take the struggle out of knowing what is happening next & what we should be doing, as skipper or crew.
