Sailing for me started with Galway Bay Sailing Club with the odd charter holiday in the Med—mainly an excuse for sunshine & seafood. Then came an encounter with Dave, on my Day Skipper course in Dublin in 2015. At the time, Wild West Sailing was in its infancy, but Dave had the bright notion of chartering a J109 and dragging me and my pals around Ireland. Six days at sea later, I’d found my people—Dave, Sophie, and a lifelong addiction to sailing.
Fast forward to now, and I’ve just wrapped up my ninth lap around Ireland as skipper. The Irish coastline still holds the same magic it did on that first passage in 2016, probably because no two trips are ever the same, whether it’s the people on board or the conditions we navigate through.
These days, I’m a Cruising Instructor teaching from Ros a Mhíl, ready to pass on my love for the west coast and the Wild Atlantic Way!
